Out and About

After a year and a half of not driving or flying anyway we finally went on a trip – hurray. We had a good reason as my Passport was running out in August so I arranged an appointment with the German Consulate General in Los Angeles. So on Wednesday the 19 of May I flew from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas. Rebekah dropped me off early, but when I saw the long line for passport control and security I feared that I might not make it. Luckily I made it to the gate just as the first class passengers were boarding – I made it. A bit stressful as I do not like to be late. I flew Delta and had a good flight. My sister picked me up from the airport in Las Vegas with Bella, her dog, who I had not met – a covid dog. Bella was so cute as she was checking me out in the car. My sister dropped me off at her house and unfortunately she had to go straight to work. I was so thankful for the cooler weather that greeted me there. This mend that Bella and I could walk everyday, while I was there, sometimes twice a day as my sister was working. It was so nice that she had Saturday and Sunday off so we could hang out, a little walking, but lots of helping her sorting her house out, which I like doing. It was lovely spending a few days with her and Bella. David drove on Sunday to Las Vegas and arrived tired in the afternoon. Not long after we drove 30 minutes, at 4.25 p.m., to my nieces and her families house, where we met up with her husband, son, dogs and rabbits. We had a lovely meal together and talk about our German family. On Monday we had one day in Las Vegas, walking with Bella, which was nice. On Tuesday we drove to Los Angeles and stayed the evening there, walking and eating an enormous Salat – really? Why do they serve such enormes portions? I know they give you bags to take the rest home, not something we are use to and did not do. We noticed that mask wearing was till everywhere, even on the street and it was hot. On Wednesday I walked to the German Consulate in the morning, my appointment was at 9.00 a.m. and sorted my passport out. David had gotten some grocery and picked me afterward up and we drove north, our next adventure. We stayed in a place called Pacific Grove, not far from Monterey. Oh my, the temperature was so much cooler. We had to wear jackets and jeans, instead of shorts and tea-shirts. But it was worth it. David loved the ocean. He felt so happy and to him it felt like he was in Cornwall. We saw lots of seagulls, squirrels, heard sea lions in the distance and even saw a whale from the shore. I was very impressed with the food. Even the little local grocery sold organic, gluten free and lovely German bread. We mainly walked there and stayed 3 days and 2 nights and then drove slowly, with one stop over back in an hotel, back to Las Vegas. Las Vegas this time much hotter, too hot to even walk. We walked on Sunday in the evening with Bella after 8.00 p.m. still it was hot to walk far.

On Monday everything was over and drove back. It was lovey to get out finally, but we did too much driving and felt exhausted, but lovely to be with my sister, meet Bella and the experience at the Beach.
