Today is Friday the 10th of September and I can’t believe I have covid. My symptoms started last Friday, the 3rd of September. It has been a week now and I am still feeling weak. Recovery is far too slow for me. I want to get on with life. I am still sitting, laying and a little potting around the house, washing clothes, doing little things here and there, then I have to sit down again. Come on! I had the vaccine in March and did not expect this. I know, I know there was never a 100% guaranty that I would not get it. So, we have been wondering where I got it from. My daughter said it was from her daughter (all four girls were sick and the 3 year old was tested positive). The previous Tuesday, 31st of August we took our two middle granddaughters to the Temple in Provo. My 16 year old had a cold, but she thought it was just from not sleeping enough or the smoky air. We had a good time and afterwards they wanted some chips (England) fries (in America) from Wendy’s and we got the takeaway and ate in the car. The girls wore masks during the Temple visit, but we did not. Then on Wednesday evening we met up with friends as they had invited us to join them in Provo to watch a musical, called 1820. It was a great show and we had a good time, again we did not wear masks. On Thursday we walked with our neighbor dog Ollie and then put the kayaks on the car and drove to Jordanelle Reservoir. David mentioned that he felt very tired and had not much energy that day (was is body fighting covid?). I enjoyed being in the water, even though the weather was cooler and it was windier and wavier. It was so different form the other reservoir so it was an adventure.
Friday morning: I woke up with a sore throat and a message on our phones saying that we had been exposed to someone who had corvid and were encouraged to get a test done. David started to get anxious and did not wanted to get tested. I tried to find an appointment or a test kid – nothing available. I went downhill fast and later I was too tired to do anything. I slept downstairs and for the next 3 days was out. I had chills, sore throats and no appetite. David coped by going into a cocoon. Sunday night he came out and made an appointment with the clinic at American Folk for me to get tested. He took me, but did not get tested himself. He was sure I just had a cold. Monday I dressed and started to eat a bit more. The test result came back Monday night. I was positive! I was ok with that, making more antibodies, right? David has had symptoms of fatigue and was sure he had it too. He finally got tested and was even more shocked to get a negative result. He panicked even more as he realized that he still can get it. Oh my! Life has sure not been easy here in our house.
I have found it fascinating to watch my body and what it does and how it copes. At first I did not want any food. All the energy was needed to fix me. First lots of drinking, then I had a bit of a banana, then cooked, plain rice, then banana and rice and drinks. I then ate soups. At first clear broth, then clear, chicken, rice soup. I now have eaten cooked vegetables and toast with Avocado. I had grapes, oranges and apples. Today I had a bit of cooked, wild salmon, cooked in the oven, but I am not sure if that was good. I have not felt good today.
I thought I was getting stronger each day, but today felt like a sat back. I started yoga on Wednesday as my back started to hurt and it was difficult to sleep. It is amazing how a bit of yoga in the morning has corrected that. I was also wondering about if I shout take any vitamins? I have not taken any. I have now ordered some elderberry syrup which comes today. I feel I need something as the recovery is too slow. Well, I will hang in there and plot on and hopefully have learned something from this experience.
Update! Today is Tuesday, the 14 of September – 12 day after the first symptoms. Most of my symptoms have gone, a little bit of phlegm in my throat and still not feel like eating everything. I am eating what I have been eaten before, but today had hummus, carrots and green salads and avocado, banana and cashew milk smoothy. Today my daughter brought us dinner. Lovely. But I am still feeling fatigue. I did vacuumed a little today, but had to sit down afterwards. Yesterday I asked David to take me to the mountain and reservoir. It was herrlich, looking at those tall trees, still lots of sunflowers and the water made me happy. We had face-time with our middle son’s children, telling us about how school is going, I missed the contact and they new adventures of going to school again. My youngest son wife brought by pictures and nice things for me to enjoy. Made my day on Sunday.
So, life goes on and I hope by next week I am well enough to walk every day again.
